IMPORTANT NEW GUIDELINES FOR COMPETITORS
The British Show Pony Society is committed to upholding the highest standards in showing, whilst being a forward-looking Society we also need to maintain traditional values, to that end the following dress code must be followed.
Competitors are reminded that following standards apply:
For, SHP & WHP, and Mountain and Moorland classes, tweed jackets, cream breeches/ jodhpurs, shirt, tie, black or brown long or jodhpur boots and gloves should be worn. Hats to meet current BSPS Rule 46 must be worn and should have a plain cover, and may be black, navy blue, grey, brown or green. Velvet covers are encouraged.
In lead rein SHP/WHP classes, leaders should be appropriately attired for the class, suitable hats must be worn, e.g., for men this can be a flat cap, trilby or Panama hat.
For SP classes, blue/black/brown jackets, cream breeches/jodhpurs, shirt, tie, black/brown long or jodhpur boots and gloves should be worn. Hats to meet current BSPS Rule 46 must be worn and should have a plain cover and may be black, navy blue, grey or brown in colour. Velvet covers are encouraged.
Rule 46: Correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats Nos. All PAS015, VG1, ASTM F1163 04a onwards, SNELL E2001, AS/NZS 3838 2003 onwards, MUST be worn by riders at all times when mounted.
In lead rein classes leader should be appropriately attired, suitable hats must be worn, e.g. for men a bowler hat is encouraged.
In evening performances blue/black jackets, with a plain white stock by be worn in all sections.
Competitors may use suitable wet weather clothing, coats should be of plain colour and advertising or team branding is prohibited. Competitors may ride without jackets in extreme heat with the permission of the show or judge.
IT IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN ELIMINATION FOR COMPETITORS TO HAVE ADVERTISING OR TEAM BRANDING EG TEAM XXX ON ANY ITEM OF CLOTHING OR HAT WHEN COMPETING IN THE RING. MANUFACTURES NAMES/ LABELLING COMMON TO THE PRODUCT ARE EXCLUDED.

Grooms entering the ring should be smart, wear a hat, and respect the standards expected by the Society, show, class and competitors.
